Organic viticulture and wine West Georgia

The innovation of Georgian winemaking is important for rural development in western Georgia. By new educational offers for organic viticulture, the Iberia College branch in the wine region of Baghdati reaches out to existing and upcoming wine producers to engage in viticulture and wine in a traditional wine region with special respect for biodiversity and sustainability. Mid-2021 Sustain Caucasus International in coalition with the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the Georgian Technical University (GTU) engaged in developing a vocational education and training offer for winegrowers in Racha, Lechkhumi, Samegrelo and Imereti under a grant of the UNDP / SDC project for the modernization of VET in agriculture. Based on a training needs assessment at the level of 17 participating grape growers a short-term course for the introduction of organic viticulture principles for existing and upcoming winegrowers was developed and is ready for implementation in Baghdati.
